Education Interpreter 2025
JOB PURPOSE
Deliver curriculum directed educational and interpretive programs in conjunction with the Education Manager
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES EDUCATION INTERPRETER
- Develop and research education and interpretive programs as directed by the Education Manager
- Deliver education and interpretive programs ensuring accuracy of information and the maintenance of the conservation message
- Assist with the development and implementation of the education component for special events when necessary
- Assist with the socialization of the animal collection
- Assist with preparing year-end program evaluation and education reports
- Assist the Education Manager with any other duties inside the education department
- Assist the Education Coordinator with Volunteer training and supervision as required
- Develop (in conjunction with the Education Manager) & lead paid public tours/programs onsite in the summer
- Fill in Train Driver (as needed) – Operating the Kinsmen Express II Train safely in accordance with the on-site training and training manual. You will deliver a prepared speech while driving, touring visitors around the zoo.
- Assist with summer camps when required
- Be willing to work with all of our socialized animal ambassadors once your training is completed. This will include reptiles, amphibians, small mammals and some invertebrates. Occasionally, it may include some birds when species come available.
- Be enthusiastic and passionate to inspire discovery and learning in others
- Outgoing personality and willingness to engage new groups of people through public speaking
- Act as a responsible ambassador for the Saskatoon Zoo Society.
- Maintain a safe, clean working environment for animals, visitors, and staff
This is a temporary, one-year term position. There is a high possibility of continuing on into a full-time position in subsequent years as this position is part of our succession planning process. We are looking to hire someone that is interested in moving from part-time to full time in the future.
Hours: January-June 2025 Monday, Wednesday, Friday 8:30-3:30
July-August: Friday, Saturday, Sunday 9:00-4:00 (1 weekend off in July and 1 in August)
September 1-7th: Turnaround week to allow for return to M,W,F schedule
September 8 to December 31 2025: Monday, Wednesday, Friday 8:30-3:30
Additional hours may be added as needed.
Wage: $25/hour
Qualifications:
ECE diploma, B.Ed, Interpreter work at a recognized Zoo, museum or gallery where you were responsible for delivering programs to children of a variety of ages
Fluent in both French and English
Desire to become a Full-Time Employee
