Some programs include a pre-taped video tour of some of the animals in the Zoo (matching the theme). The video is good for the entire day so classes can watch anytime during the day, either before or after the program with the Zoo Society educator. 

  Class Limits: We allow ONE class per virtual program due to the interactive nature of the program.     

Story & Animal Friends

Pre-K and Kindergarten

Join a Zoo Society Educator for a story and a meet and greet with two of the Zoo’s Animal Ambassadors! Program duration is approximately 30-40 minutes.

Grade 1 Program

What are some of the cool characteristics of animals with fur, feathers, scales and slime? Find out in this hands-on exploration of animal life. Program duration 45 minutes to 1 hour. Program includes a video tour that can be viewed anytime during the day of the booking.

Meet the Creature

Grades 1 to 3

What are some of the cool characteristics of animals with fur, feathers, scales, and slime? Program Time is 45 minutes to an hour. This program includes a video tour that can be viewed anytime during the day of the program booking.

Endangered Species

Grades 3 to 3/4 splits

In this program, we will look at what it means to be an endangered animal and what animals need in order to be successful in their environment. We will look at a few endangered species in Saskatchewan and what may have caused them to be a species at risk. Just before we meet a few of our animal ambassadors, the students will be asked to suggest ways in which they can help out our animal friends. Total program time is 1-1.25 hours

Habitats and Adaptations

Grades 4 to 6

This program looks at how animals use their special adaptations in order to survive in a variety of habitats. Program Time is between 1 and 1.25 hours. This program includes a video tour that can be viewed anytime during the day of the program booking.

Owl and Owl Pellet Program

Grades 4 to 8

This program looks at the ecology of owls in Saskatchewan. Unlike other birds of prey, owls cannot digest their prey’s bones. What’s left behind instead is known as an owl pellet. Scientists use these pellets to study the biodiversity of the owl’s habitat.
Total program time is 45 minutes. Ten small owl pellets or 5 large owl pellets (good for 2 students) are included with your booking. You can choose to pick up your pellets BEFORE your program or we can mail them to you for a shipping fee (shipping costs vary). Additional Owl pellets are available for purchase to dissect in your classroom at a cost of $4.50/ small pellet or $9.00 for large pellet (for 2 students). Additonal owl pellets need to be ordered prior to the program by calling us at 306-975-3395.

Note: This program does not include animal ambassador time.

Classification

Grades 6-8

In this program we look at the history of how scientists group living creatures and learn the why and how behind naming of a species. Classes will get to interact with a few of our animal ambassadors in this program. Program Time is between 1 and 1.25 hours.

Species at Risk

Grades 7 to 8

This program discusses the importance of a healthy environment and human health while discovering why Saskatchewan has so many species at risk. This program focuses on Indigenous viewpoints of the land and species, and on what can be done to support the health of the land. Program Time is between 1 and 1.25 hours. This program includes a video tour that can be viewed anytime during the day of the program booking.

Life Cycles

Grade 2

Do all animals look like their Mom and Dad? 
Students will look at the life cycle of a frog and/or a butterfly and determine the order of their life cycle. Then we’ll look at the difference between a lizard, salamander and axolotl. What is one of the favourite foods of the lizards? Mealworms! But are they really worms or something else? Approximately 1 hour
